The Bakken Museum, in West Winds Mansion on the shore of Bde Maka Ska, features interactive activities for all. Make movies in the Spark exhibit, meet the mother of sci-fi in Mary & Her Monster, and test Ben Franklin's experiments in the Electricity Party Room while you tour our historic mansion and expansive gardens.
What to Expect
We're offering free admission on Saturday, 5/9 for Doors Open! We'll have volunteers on site to talk about the history of West Winds Mansion, guided garden tours, a sneak peek at some of the items in Earl Bakken's collection, and hands-on activities to try in our Science Studio.
Science Studio
When: 10 AM - 5 PM Saturday
What: Hands-on activities and challenges for all ages
What to know: Happening all day; no advance sign-up or day-of check-in needed.
Guided Garden Tours
When: Beginning at 11 AM, 1 PM, and 2 PM Saturday
What: A guided tour of the museum grounds and gardens led by Director of Facilities Operations & Rentals Chris Lundeen
What to know: Participants should check in at the visitor services desk and wait in the lobby for the tour to begin from there.
Collections Table:
When: 11 AM - 2 PM Saturday
What: A sneak peek at a few items from Earl Bakken's collection, hosted by Curator of Exhibits & Collections Adrian Fischer and Assistant Curator Audra Johnson
What to know: No food or drink is allowed near the collections items. Location TBD; check in at the visitor services desk for more information.
