Kids are invited to bring their favorite Teddy Bears to our Clinic and Specialty Center for a special Teddy Bear Clinic. “The goal of this free event is to expose children to the medical environment before a traumatic situation occurs,” explains HCMC emergency physician Dr. Anna McFarlin. “In addition to preventing trauma, we hope to help children feel more comfortable in this setting and with the procedures that occur during a typical emergency department visit. Allowing Teddy – or any other stuffed animal – to participate demonstrates the friendly nature and loving goal of a visit.” Teddy Bears will be “admitted” and after being examined may have a variety of procedures performed including blood pressure and heart rate checks, injections, stitches, x-rays, or a splint or bandage placed on their paws. The Teddy Bear Clinic will feature Teddy Bear repairs and sew-ups, trauma prevention activities, ambulance and fire truck tours.

The unique architecture and long history of the Wirth Home, built in 1910, provides a backdrop for learning about the role of Theodore Wirth and the development of the Minneapolis park system. Current resident Superintendent Al Bangoura will share his experiences living in the home and the efforts taking place to preserve it.

First Unitarian Society is the birthplace of congregational humanism. Every Sunday, the congregation gathers at a 10:30 assembly and subsequent mini meal, in our beautiful, mid-century modern building. During the week, over 30 groups meet to think, create, and take social action in the community.

Mixed Blood Theatre was the first mixed-race theater company in Minneapolis with an ensemble that featured ten African American employees and players, as well as six Native Americans and seven white people. The venue, in conjunction with the Penumbra Theatre, offered new opportunities for Black Minneapolitans to enter the world of theatre. Described by its founder Jack Reuler, as an “identity-conscious organization,” our theater continues to “disrupt injustices, advance equity, and build community.”

Theatre in the Round is one of very few local theatres with all operations under one roof. The Minnesota African American Heritage Museum and Gallery (MAAHMG) focuses on the accomplishment and achievement of African Americans in the State of Minnesota since September 2018. The MAAHMG carries out this directive through exhibits, programs and events that educate and inform the public about the history, culture, and art of African Americans in Minnesota. We are a community gathering space where people meet and celebrate Black history. The Museum is free, accessible to all, and tours are provided.

The Bakken Museum, in West Winds Mansion on the shore of Bde Maka Ska, features interactive activities for all. Do you know where the water from your toilets and sinks goes? The City of Minneapolis will open a sewer manhole and set up a closed-circuit televising truck so you can see the inside of the sewer system and learn all about it! Safety equipment and staff will be on hand.
