One of the most celebrated art museums in the country, the Walker Art Center is known for its innovative presentations and acclaimed collections of contemporary art across the spectrum of the visual, performing, and media arts. Over the course of more than 100 years, the Walker has evolved from a privately held collection into an internationally recognized institution and civic resource.

What to Expect

Free admission all day, artmaking, library access, and tours of the galleries, Cinema and Mediatheque.

When: 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm

What: Guided tours of the Walker’s permanent collection exhibition, This Must be the Place.

What to know: Maximum group size is 20 participants. Gather in the Main Lobby a few minutes before tour start times to secure a spot. Tours are approximately 30 minutes.

When: 2pm, 4pm

What: Tours of the Walker Cinema and Mediatheque

What to know: Gather in the Main Lobby outside the Cinema before tour start times to secure a spot.

When: 10-5

What: Artmaking & Library Access

What to know: Artmaking will take place in the Art Lab. The Library is located just behind it and will be accessible through the Art Lab.


Be Prepared
Photography is permitted without a flash. Some works may not be photographed but are clearly marked. Please do not touch artworks unless signage or staff indicate that it's ok to touch. Large bags/backpacks, food and drinks, umbrellas and tripods are not allowed in the galleries. Lockers are available to securely store belongings.

Parking & Drop-off: Paid parking is available in the adjacent Vineland Place ramp, and meters are located along Groveland and Vineland. The Parade Lot near the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is also available to park in for a fee. Free street parking is limited. Bike racks are located at the Main Entrance on Vineland and behind the building off of Groveland.

Drop-offs should take place near the main entrance on Vineland.

Alternative Transportation: A new Metro Transit bus station has recently been added to the corner of Hennepin and Groveland.

Bicycle racks are available on the north and south end of the campus.
