Opened in 2008, MacPhail Center for Music in Mill City is a vibrant, light-filled destination where music and art fill every floor. Designed by architect James Dayton with acoustics by Kirkegaard Associates, the building features visible teaching studios, inspiring performance spaces, and dynamic gathering areas support a powerful mission dating back to 1907, to transform lives through accessible, community-centered music education for all ages.


What to Expect

Discover MacPhail’s award-winning downtown Minneapolis campus during Doors Open. Explore the striking architecture—from light-filled spaces to the acclaimed Antonello Hall—while experiencing music in action. Whether you’re curious about the space or the music within it, come see how MacPhail transforms lives through music.

Building tours will be offered throughout the day led by Paul Babcock (MacPhail CEO) and Melissa Falb (Director of Program Operations). An art scavenger hunt will be offered for kids as guests explore the building. There will performances in the lobby performance space (10 am and 1 pm) by MacPhail students and two concerts open to the public in Antonello hall (11 am and 3 pm). We will also have an instrument petting zoo to allow visitors of all ages to try out instruments and experience all of the magic of music at MacPhail. There is no set capacity, but tours will be kept to groups of 10-15.


Be Prepared

Please note, regular MacPhail classes and programming will be taking place in the building during the event.

Parking There is a drop-off zone to the left of the building and a paid parking ramp in immediate proximity. Many of our students utilize metered street parking, and there are also multiple paid ramps in close walking distance.
